About Healing Woods:
Healing Woods Massage Therapy is a independant company owned and operated by Roxanna McLaughlin, LMT-CMT-ABMP.
Healing Woods Massage Therapy seeks to be an active part of its community with education and volunteer service to the city of Bozeman, the surrounding area, and to clients and workers of hospice care facilities.
Here are a few words from Roxanna herself.
In 1987 I began my first career incarnation as a degreed electronics technician.
The field provided a good living for myself and my sons, yet in my off work hours, I would
browse the libraries and used book stores for books and articles about health, alternative
medicine, and spirit-body-mind connection. Soon my shelves where lined with books on subjects
from Ayurveda to Zen. I never felt like I could learn enough on these subjects.
I explored going back to school to study these subjects formally, but with a family to support,
it did not seem the right time.
In 1995, in the midst of moving my household to Lincoln, my moms death shook my world. Although hospitalized, her death was unexpected, and as I grieved, I asked myself if there was something I might have missed; something that would have indicated the closeness of her death. A few years later I came across material about the growing movement in hospice care. I read works by Stephen Levine and Ira Byock. I decided to become a hospice volunteer and I completed my training February 2001. I began visiting hospice clients in a Lincoln facility and quickly came to the realization of just how fulfilling this work was for me. I wanted to do more. I wanted to touch these people in a healing way, full time, if I could. The best way to do this in Nebraska would be to become a licensed massage therapist.
The summer of 2001, I explored the massage therapy schools in the area. The director of the school I ended up attending listened to my story and mentioned a technique called Comfort Touch. That fall I made two trips to Boulder, CO, and studied with Mary Rose, who developed the technique. The following January I began my massage therapy education at the Universal College of Healing Arts in Omaha. I was so delighted to discover that the books I had collected over the years found a perfect place in the subjects I now was studying.
December 2002, I graduated from UCHA, and February, 2003, I achieved National Certification and obtained my Nebraska license to practice massage therapy.
